- 1 cup Guinness stout
- 1 cup unsalted butter
- 3/4 cup cocoa powder
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 cups sugar
- 1 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 3/4 tsp salt
- 2 large eggs
- 2/3 cup sour cream
- 1 cup Irish butter, softened
- 4 cups powdered sugar
- 2 tbsp heavy cream
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease a 9-inch cake pan.
- Heat Guinness and butter in a saucepan until melted. Whisk in cocoa powder until smooth. Let cool slightly.
- In a bowl, mix flour, sugar, baking soda, and salt.
- Beat eggs and sour cream in another bowl. Add the Guinness mixture and mix well.
- Gradually add dry ingredients to wet ingredients, mixing until combined.
- Pour batter into the pan and bake for 35-40 minutes. Let cool completely.
- For the buttercream, beat Irish butter until creamy. Gradually add powdered sugar, heavy cream, and vanilla. Spread over cooled cake.

- Let the cake cool before frosting to prevent melting.
